So my 305 1984 z28 has a tpi but I’m missing a control module computer. For the life of me I can’t find any info on whether or not I need a specific computer. Plus every one I’ve seen on eBay or marketplace has just said “305 v8 control module” and the year. My local pick a part isn’t much help either cause they only have v6s. So long story short, do I need a specific computer for the tpi?

 

85 was the first year for TPI, so either yours was swapped or you're off a year.
85 is a one year only controller. 86-89 and 90-92 are different depending on if the car is equipped with MAF or MAP.

 

Does your engine have a maf or map, a bosch burn off module under the dash ?
you purchased the car with it missing ?
