Cam kitt and stock heads?
Hello!
To start with my English is not the best so it can be hard to understand. Sry for that, English is not my first language.
I have a stock Z28 5.7 L98 - 91.
I have this cam kitt https://www.compcams.com/xtreme-energy-computer-controlled-218-224-hydraulic-roller-cam-k-kit-for-oe-roller-sbc.html
My question is can i use it with my stock heads?
I Have been searching before i posted this but can not find any information.

Might want to stud the heads or pin the press in studs. Make sure you check guide to retainer clearance the guides might have to be cut.

YES! My engine had a bigger cam and spring kit before i got it. I changed springs and put a milder cam in but the damage was already done. A year later a pressed in stud come undone
Re: Cam kitt and stock heads?
Okey, that is good to know. Thank you for your answers. I will check the guide to retainer clearance like you said. If the only problem is that i might need to clearance the guides then i will go ahead and install it. I was told that i might not can use the cam with the stock heads, so that is why i asked.
I was thinking if it would be a problem then i wait with the install because sometime in the future im going to buy some aftermarket heads.

Summit lists that the springs in that kit are 1.43” diameter. Your stock pockets are for 1.25” diameter springs. So if you run those springs the head’s spring pockets will need to be machined larger.
It also appears the springs in the kit are the Comp 986-16 springs. You need to make sure. If they are from what I can tell, the installed height is 1.75”. If so, you should be able to use them with the stock valves. Again, make sure you know what springs are with the kit. It’s possible you may need to run .050” valve locks to add “installed height”.
Check on the machining costs because Isky 235-0 springs at $160 has similar specs and are drop in, no machine work required. Still might need .050” lock though. You won’t know for sure until you check the installed height
If you decide to machine the heads for the valve springs, you might as well get them to machine them for screw in rocker studs. If you’re not getting them machined, as others have said it’s not a bad idea to at least pin the stock studs.
While not excessive, the lift is high enough that I’d suggest running at a minimum a set of heat treated long slot rocker arms. Elgen makes a heat treated stamped steel self aligning set for around $100. I’ve run these before and they’re good quality rockers. Stay clear of the house brand long slot stamped steel rockers and especially those stamped steel ones with the roller tips.

BadSS yes i noticed that now when you mentioned it. I have to think a little if i want to get the stock heads machined, buy new springs or if i just go ahead and purchase new heads.
Thank you for all the help. You have given me something to think about now.
