85 Camaro Runs with MAF sensor unplugged

What’s up guys I have a 85 iroc z with a 305 tpi in it. With the maf plugged in it will not run it starts and dies and there is no ses light. With the maf sensor unplugged it will run fine just a little hiccup when you give it gas and the ses light is on. I bought a maf sensor from Delphi but when I plugged it in it did the same thing. I bought the AF10328 sensor. What is the next step to trouble shoot it I know these tpi’s are different from the other ones. Thanks in advance.

What is the history of the previous MAF? Was it an original, or replaced sometime earlier?

What Delphi part number MAF was install to replace it?

It was the original Bosh maf sensor. The one I bought was the delphi AF10328. I might change the plug maybe there is something wrong with it.

According to available resources, the 10328 MAF should be correct for an early 1985 TPI using the FM output signal.

Correct, so I’m thinking maybe the connector could be bad? Because as soon as I hook it up the car will start and instantly die. It will barely run. I’m probably going to return the Delphi one

Re: 85 Camaro Runs with MAF sensor unplugged

Well I think I fixed the problem. When I did the water pump I cleaned out the throttle body where the water runs thru it was plugged up with like calcium. I finished and plugged the maf sensor in expecting it to die and to my Suprised it ran and didn’t die anymore. It responded good when I accelerated it. I’m not completely sure how it fixed but it did and no ses light

Re: 85 Camaro Runs with MAF sensor unplugged

My guess is Post #5, and your frequent disconnection and reconnection may have helped wiped the contacts clean. It may return, and you would have a better idea of what to check first. De-oxidizing contact cleaner can be very useful for both the contact surfaces and the crimped connections in these factory PED plugs.
