opinions on TPI vs. TBI

Just wondering what the general concensus is on switching over from TBI to TPI is. I have a had a TPI set up setting around for like 5 months now, and been dickin' around about putting it on. Is it better to just do some mods on the TBI or switch over to the TPI set up?........Tell me what you think. Maybe i might get off my can and put it on sooner or just upgrade the TBI.

I'm going through a swap myself from TBI to TPI. If I were you I would go to TPI, too, but I'm biased. I prefer TPI to TBI and am interested in the potential many have found with SD. Of course, there are many who love TBI and would dispute this.

Don't let it get you down that you haven't started the swap yet, I collected two complete TPI set ups and one complete TPI engine and trans before I finally started.

Good luck.

My dad converted his stock 305 TBI over to TPI, and gained 17 HP and 70 TQ at the rear wheels. He's never regretted it. He said the power difference is awesome. And he's even gained 1 or 2 more miles per gallon. If you can afford it, its definitely worth it.

There is not much of the "stock" setup to be desired.

A harness, injectors, rails, ecm, maybe plenum, and a few small things is about it.

THe baseplate, runners, throttle body, regulator, are all junk.

A lot of guys have been using modified LT1 intakes. I hear they work pretty good. I have not experimented.

I'm running an edelbrock baseplate, slp runners, and a 52MM throttle body (which I make). All fed by a vortech supercharger.

TBI is not bad, I mean, its a decent factory setup.. It flows about 380CFM tho, and there really isn't much more to go with it. Its a "smarter carb" really.. Not to knock it, it "runs" better than my Holley 600 ever will. But I wouldn't race with it..
