Budget TPI vs Holley Commander Stealth Ram
Hey guys, I really need alot of info and ideas here. I just purchased a 91' RS 305 TBI. I have a 355 that I just rebuilt in my 85 camaro thats rusting away. I have two options.
1) Holley Stealth Ram w/ Commander 950 ECU
I really like this setup. Its not on the market yet but will be soon for around $2400.00. Thats steep.
2) Go with a stock / modded TPI setup.
I like this idea too. I can get a whole setup from thirdgenresource for like $450.00. I like this idea better because It'll save money for getting some body things fixed up (couple dents, ss hood needs painted, etc...) My question is!
Does the TPI perform similar to the holley. Kinda like spend some money and get alot of horsepower (TPI) and spend alot of money and get just a little bit more than the TPI and not worth the extra 1500. Because I can put that 1500 into a high flow exhaust, afr heads, and a bigger cam. Also, what do you guys suggest as the best mods for the TPI setup (ie intakes, minirams, superams??? and who makes these products...)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to get alot of research done to decide the future of my car...
Thanks

No the TPI setup will not perform as well as the holley unit. That holley efi system has a carb style intake that flows a lot better at higher RPMs. The TPI setup will give you a lot of stump-pulling torque (i know from personal experience
) but as most people it will choke your motor at higher rpms (5 grand+) without some major work, which will take a good chunk out of that $1500 you save over buying one of those holley EFI systems. There are better intakes out there such as the miniram and superram but those are also pricey. Now if you want a cheap induction system go get a LT1 intake off ebay or at a boneyard for about $150 complete. With a little work you can make it fit right on and you'll save a lot of money. Go ask John Millican.
