Trick Flow or Vortec??

Ok what is a better power/cost option:

-Trick Flow heads & Edelbrock base

or

-Port & Polished Vortec heads w/ 2.02/1.60 & Scoggin-Dickey base

Thanks a lot,

3 things come to mind:

1) Vortecs DO NOT respond well to mods like those listed. They pretty much flow about as much as when you get them. You might get a little more, but not much.

2) Are you talking about Trick Flow 23* Heads or Twisted Wedge Heads? I really like those twisted wedge heads, but the 23* heads do a great job too and are more budget oriented.

3) Are you dead set on one of these two types/brands of cylinder heads or are you open to suggestion?

I looking at the Trick Flow Twisted Wedge G2s.... the ones that are in Summit doe like $900 somme odd dollars..... I'm open to almost any make of heads.... I don't really want to spend more than $1000 for alu. heads & more than $800 for cast iron.... I'm not really worried about the weight vs. perf. thing w/ cast iron since I'll eventually have AFRs on but I'm working w/ a High School budget while still paying for the truck & saving for college...

Why buy a set of heads if you know you'll want AFRs later? sounds like a waste of effort and money.
Just wait a little longer for that extra $500 and get the AFRs.
Otherwise, I'd just port your stock ones and be done with it till you have the $ for what you want.

How long till u plan on switching to the AFRs? Don't put on the Vortecs or Trick flows if you plan on getting the AFRs in say, the next year. Just save up to get exaclty what you want...it's too much hastle to put some heads on now, then do it again soon after.

Is that Crane cam your choice for the initial swap? I don't know the specs, but if you could provide us with the specs, that might help. If you are gonna use a fairly mild cam, I would recommend something on the smaller intake port volume side to make the most of your combo. One thing you have to keep in mind with heads and cam combos is that bigger isn't always better. In a truck your especially gonna want to build for more torque than horsepower.

alright the specs on the cam are .452/.465 214/220 so yeas itz a pretty mild cam.... & I'm definetly a torque person high top-end isn't what I'm looking for now.... I might be able to get a set of beat up L98 heads for $50 so I guess I'll get a hold of him & then get those heads ported & rebuilt
