Initial RPM

Hey, I got an 88 IROC with a 350 TPI. I was wondering when you start the car what should the engine rev up to? Mine sometimes goes to 1500, sometimes 1250. Should it be consistant? What do you guy's rev up to? I'm curious if I have a vacuum leak. Thanks!

Mine revs up to about 1500-1600 rpms but then slowly comes back down and idles at 1200 rpms. However, I have my idle set high because I think my IAC is bad and it doesn't idle right at lower rpms. I don't think it should idle any higher than about 1,000 rpms at most in park though when everything is set properly. Check out the article in the tech article section on properly setting your IAC and TPS and see if that doesn't help.
