TPI Swap Qusetions
TPI Swap Qusetions
I'm buying a 85 TPI set up from a fellow thirdgen member. I'm have some questions. My car has and soon will have had a 305 TBI. First will a painless wiring harness work. They are for years 86 to 89. My question is will I have to upgrade to a later ecm? Also will all the other sensors snap into the harness? My main worry is the MAF sensor. Also how can I hook up the distributor? Will I have to run an internal or external coil? I want to work out these questions before I get into deep. Can somebody bring sunshine to my cloudy mind?

The 86-88 harness has a cold start injector connector. the 89 harness does not. You can use the '86-'88 harness on an '89. You just wouldn't plug in the cold start injector.
The Memcal's are different. The 89 memcals all had VATS but it is the most refined code.
You might want to check out www.chevythunder.com for a harness. He basically mods a stock harness for a lot less $$. I did the painless harness on my truck. There were a lot of things painless is vague on but its worth the swap.
Good luck!
