I want to put a cam in my transam, what I"m wondering can the heads support the .474/.51 lift? I will put in new springs, but can the castings handle that much? if not is there anything I can do to make em handle it? thanks

I know that they can be machined to handle the lift. The engine I bought has iron L98 heads and the cam is .500 and .510 lift. They used the recommended spring kit from comp cams also. I dont know any of the specifics about what they did to the heads to make them accept the lift, but it can be done.

The machine shop that worked on my iron L98 heads, told me that they could only handle about .460 lift. So they had to machine down the valve guides to keep the seals from hitting the retainers.

I'd be interested in seeing how you run with that cam. Is that the stock heads you had P&P? How close are you to Milan?
If you don't post how you made out feel free to email me with results.

I have the same cam with 1.6 alum. roller rockers my total lift was .512/.528 around I had to buy larger springs and have the machine shop grind down the valve guides to accept everything.
Everything that the machine shop did cost about $200.00

I live about 20 -25 minutes from milan, I will post times as soon as I go to the track. And yes I just worked on the stock heads.
