and it pulls suprisingly nice for being n/a
is thier any differece between this block and say the regal or TTA
version?

i just changed the starter on this and noticed the individual exhaust collectors comming of the head,damn!

I know the GNs (and TTAs) only ran about 8:1 static compression. I believe they used a lot more duration on the cam profiles. Likely the cranks were a little more beefy as well.

The front wheel drive block uses a different transmission bell housing configuration, not interchangable.

The Bonneville is front wheel drive, It uses a TH440 tranny, There
is no rear wheel drive tranny that will hookup to the Bonneville
engine, but there are adapter kits to make the swap possible.

hooking it up in a 6cyl bird or camaro and using forced air induction,better suspension etc.......................
mating the 3.8 to a t-56 using the adapter
i guess a custom drive shaft would be needed?

Actuall I think the 2.8 and 3.1 V6 use the same bell housing
pattern as the front wheel drive engines, but the flewheel
won't bolt to the converter which will give starter issues also.
Tomorrow I willl put a 2.8 Camaro bell housing up to a 3.8
frontwheel drive motor and see if it will bolt up.
If so, it would be possible to use a supercharged Bonneville
motor in a Camaro or T/A with some major work as the FWD
motors have no provisions for motor mounts on the sides of
the block.

If you really want to swap to a V-6, consider a 262 inch Chevy even-fire Six for a few reasons:
Same bolt pattern as the SBC;
Same balance shaft as the 231 Buick;
Better parts availability;
Uses stock transmissions, starters, pistons, rods, and flywheels;
Can be bored and stroked to a 4.7 - 286 stroker,
or bored up to 282 with stock storke, The Buick can only be increased to 236 inches before you throw away the block;
Can be turbo or blower charged;
Can be built with aluminum block and heads;
Better selection of camshaft profiles (Comp stocks 26 different cams for the 262, only 3 for the Buick 231);
More intake choices, torque converter choices, starter options, water pump possibilities, fuel pumps, mounting configurations, yada, yada...
Yes, the Buick is a nice little engine - if you want a little engine. I don't want to start flames with the guys who have and like them, since it is probably one of the best corporate engines GM has in it's class. It's just that you can run the same boost on the larger engine and get proportionately more power. Just saying....

It will not bolt together, the dowel pins are not in the same
places and the configuration is just too far off and I have never
seen a kit for this kind of swap.

Well, the 262 in my '89 S-10 is 4.3L same bore/stroke as a 350. Actually, everyone over on an s-series board says they just took a 350 and removed the 7 & 8 cylinder. A little more complicated then that, but they based it off the 350.

What about a 3.8L out of a 4thgen? What block do they use? Clearly they use the 4L60E tranny in that configuration, so there's GOT to be a way to make it work. Hell, If the 3.8 in my Olds ever goes, I was thinking about finding out if that swap will work.

ive done maintenence on a new 3.8 and it wasnt fun
plugs were almost impossible to do
when changing oil filter it leaks oil on sum parts because the filter isnt on like an 8,its on horizontaly near steering linkage
although the plug thing wouldnt matter with sum headers
and the oil filter spillage can be manged by jacking the oil collector closer to the filter
i wonder if the t56 would work with the new 3.8????
is the bore and stroke combo the same as the old 3.8?
