LT1 cam , smaller than L98 cam??help!
ok heres my story,
my iroc with a 305 tpi came factoy with the L98 cam, well this winter i decided to rebuild the motor, and i decided to find a 95-later LT1 cam, well i now have 2 LT1 cams as well as 2 L98 cams, now here is my problem:
when measured with a micrometer, or dial indicator, i am seeing that the LT1 cam is 35 thousandths smaller than the l98 cam, and it should be around 35 thouandths bigger , has anyone else ever seen this ? because i dont understand how this is possible.
the casting numbers are as follows:
LT1 cam :
1.GMPT-BC-13-241 (92-94)
2.GMPT-BC-16-242 (95-97)
L98 cam :
1.CPC-BC-3-643 (1987 L98 A4/LB9 M5) int.404 exh .415
2.CPC-BC-17-049 (1988-89 L98 A4/LB9 M5) int.415 exh .430
L98 cam specs taken from this link here at the bottom of the page
anyone else have an LT1 cam they can measure and tell me the specs they get?
anyone have the casting numbers for the lt1 cam?
thanks in advance.
Matt

Smaller in what way...
Remember, More Lift is acheived by Removing material from the Short side of the Lobe, the fat end... the tall skinny end ( for lack of a better description) stays the same... It still has to clear the Cam bearings...
So if you were to Mic between the Fat end and the Skinny end, a .035 Differance betwen the L98 and LT1 cam's would indicate .035 More lift In the Lt1 cam....
this is why with Very large lift cams, You need a Longer Pushrod...
So basicaly, It sounds like your okay. Use the LT1 Cam.
