Put distributor back in...rotor position??

I finally got to work some more on the LT1 intake swap today. I set the motor on #1 TDC before I removed the distributor. I didn't move anything during the swap, so I put it back the same way. Shouldn't the rotor be pointing in between #1 and #8?

You will probably have to play with the distributor a little to get the rotor to line up properly. You will notice that as the distributoer gear meshes with the cam gear the rotor will rotate slightly. You will have to pull it out, rotate the rotor in the opposite direction until all lines up as needed. Otherwise you will have to start connecting the plug wires based on the position of the rotor.

Yeah, I tried that when I was putting it in, but it only seemed to want to fit in this position, which should be where it was. My question...at TDC, #1 has already fired, right? So I'm thinking it would be in between 1 and 8. If so, I've got it right.

You may have to take a large screwdriver and line up the notch on the oil pump shaft with the bottom of your distributor. They are both driven off the same gear. Drove my nuts when I replaced my intake gasket a few weeks ago. Good Luck!!
