Engine Differences??
Hi everyone,
Sorry to ask a stupid question for most of you.
What's the difference in the engine blocks from 84 to present, I am talking about the 350 blocks, tbi, tpi, lt1, ls1, ect. Is there a real difference?
What is teh ebst for a high proformance application?
Thanks you

That's a loaded question. From 84 to 86 they were the same. In 86 GM changed the blocks to a one piece seal design. In 87 they changed it again to accept factory roller lifters. In 92 it got changed again for the LT1 configuration. The water pump was driving by a gear on the camshaft and there was no distributor in the back. Other then that they were pretty much the same. In 97 came the REAL change the it got redesigned from the ground up. The block was ALL aluminum, six bolt main caps were used, different design heads, different bellhousing, etc etc
The BEST SBC for a high performance application is of course a block from World Castings, or a GM rocketblock or something similar. The BEST stock block would be a 400 CID block from the 70s. As far as a 350 I'd recommend a truck/vette block with 4 bolt mains, one piece seal and setup for roller lifters. You dont NEED 4 bolt mains unless you make ungodly HP figures, but if you find one, use it.

Well it would be have to be 86-up to be a one piece seal. They didnt make em like that in the 70s
GM and WorldCastings makes those blocks. GM calls it a rocketblock or a bowtie block and WordlCastings call it a Motown block I believe. Aluminum is VERY expensive for a block. Stick with an iron block
TPI bolts on to the heads not the block. TPI will bolt on to ANY SBC ever made except "vortec". Even then, you can get an aftermarket intake and use it with vortec heads
