I think my fuel pump is dying

I got my new Holley Adj FPR. Very NICE! Installed everything and I get a max of 25psi. I was getting some very erratic readings on the gage with my Crane FPR before I screwed the Crane unit up. I pulled the gage, cleaned it and applied 45psi of compressed air and it read 45psi. I also am not hearing the fuel pump come on when I turn the key. I have to start the car to get pressure.
The fuel filter is fairly new.
What do you think?

I think you might have a failed fuel pump relay. If the pump has failed you won't get it started. However, if the relay is bad you will not get the prime pump spin up when you turn on the ignition, but once the oil pressure comes up the fuel pump will energize.

But that doesn't mean your pump is good either.

Both times my fuel pump has gone bad I suffered acceleration problems. Instead of the pressure going up with initial throttle opening as it should, it dropped. I never waiting for complete failure so I'm not sure how much longer they would have lasted.

Hope this helps.

Generic atuo store TPI pumps don't seem to last long. I have only had good luck with GM pumps and performance pumps.

Thanks guys, I'll definately check that relay first before I go dropping the tank! Though if worse comes to worse, I may cut the hole over the top of the tank and reattach with dzus fittings.

If you cut an access port, please send pictures. The entire assembly is a little akward to remove so make sure you cut it big enough the first time...
