Tpi Smog Test Woes

I just bought an 88 TPI (LB9) I live in Cali. and have to smog this beast, the previous owner failed twice on hydrocarbons. I'm thinking, cap, rotor, wires? I already changed the oil, and added an additive to the fuel system. Any one who has these problems, or if you think you can help, thank you in advance!!!!!

O2 sensor, I always put in a new one before getting the Z inspected.

First question - how many miles are on it? Basic tuneup is a good start, don't forget the air filter(s) too, and a new fuel filter. If the car has anything over 60K miles, I'd switch to a new Random Technology catalytic converter too. You'd be amazed at what a new cat can do for an inspection.

If these things don't do the trick, then you'll have to diagnose further. Gook luck!

Thanx for the quick reply guys, according to the digital dash it has over 500,000 miles. ( wonder if thats a third gen record???) I haven't checked the carfax yet, I'm betting about 140,000 original.
