i've got issues......with th350...sluggish

ok.. 305, th350,4.11 gears.........i dont know where to set my vac modulator...just got a new red stripe one. can anyone give me a in the ballpark setting??? the kickdown cable....its not the kind with the "D" button..but it has a long bar in wich you tighten or loosen a boldt and move it forward or backward.....will this adjustment to the tv cable...affect anything......

my car kicks into third......and i'm cruisin...if somone infront of me is turning..i slow down...then i get on the gas..AND I'M STILL in 3rd gear...and i have to push the pedal 3/4 to try to build speed in 3rd......whats the deal...its very very sluggish........almost embarrassing...i feel like i should be turning my hazards on when i'm trying to accelerate a little bit......

i guess what i'm asking is..... how do i get some part throttle.....response...and kickdown.....

right now the vac modulator is backed out quite a bit..

thanks.............

Rob

The throttle arm stud that connects to the kickdown cable should move the length of the slot when the throttle is opened and closed. It should not be fixed to one location. There is an adjustment on it where the cable housing mounts to the manifold bracket. If it has the proper bracket the cable should be able to be adjusted so it's at full pull at wide open throttle.

The screw inside the vacuum modulator nipple should be adjusted clockwise to raise minimum to part throttle shift points, and adjusted counter clockwise to lower.
This adjustment will slightly effect how sensitive it is to kick down.
Governor springs have an effect on this also, if changing the vacuum modulator adjustment and the kickdown adjustment doesn't help you may need to mess with the governor.

Are your wide open throttle shift points low? like around 4000 rpm?

shift points are low....now that you say govenor..i'm thinking ..whoever put 4.11 s in it ..problebly didnt adjust the govenor......

there is no adjustment for the kickdown cable....where it boldts to the manifold..... there is a long ....peice of metal...where it attatches to the throttle....and there is a screw ...soo you can adjust ... but.. when i adjust it......it wont let the throttle open fully...so i have to move the boldt..twoard..the front of the car...

If your wide open throttle shift points are low you will need to lighten the governor weights to raise them, this will also make it more sensitive to kickdown.
