gear and carrier question. is this possible or did i dream this??

i have a 10 bolt 2.73 series 2 rear.

i came across some 3.42 gears from a 3 series carrier with only 1000 mi on them perfict shape for 40 bucks from a friend.

i know the physicial dif. between the 2 carriers is about .29 of an inch from pinion center but i seem to think i have seen spacers somewhere to use gears from differet carrier but which way series 2 gears in a 3 series carrier or series 3 gears in a series 2 carrier?

i also know this would put more stress on the bolts and all but im only running a 305 LB9 with few mods.

any help please or did i dream this spacer thing up

ill probably buy them anyway for a rearend swap later to 4th gen disk rear.

I've seen spacers for going for using a 3 series gear on a 2 series carrier, but not for a 7.5 inch 10 bolt. Somebody may have them though. You can buy new 3.42's that fit a 2 series carrier.

Just buy an SLP take off posi for 100 bucks just to be safe, for a total of $140, that is still cheaper than what it would cost you to buy new gears.

Jegs and Summit sells the spacers, not usually listed in their catalogs, also drivetrain direct and randys ring and pinion.

Want to know the spline count of your axles? Take one out and count it.
