will not shift into O.D.

Hi,I changed my rear a while back and ever since that tranny has not shifted correctly. I have an 88 5.0 TPI automatic. I changed my rear due to the old one going bad. I used to have a 2.73 and I decided to go with a 3.23 off a 4th gen 1999 rear disk. anyway, the symptoms I'm was getting after the swap was 1st to 2nd would shift into 2nd O.K. but was not a complete shift because it would quickly give me a small shift right after going into 2nd. 2nd to 3rd would shift fine no problem then 3rd to O.D. would shift into O.D. but when I get between 60 -70 mph it would downshift and stay there would not go back into O.D. anyway, I've posted this problem before and I was told to that the tranny had to be calibrated. So, I replaced the speedo gear, and computer prom to match the rear end. I changed these parts a while back but never did correct problem. Again, I posted this again then I was told I needed to changed the governor to match the 3.23 rear. I ordered the governor from GMPARTSDIRECT and received it yesterday and I installed it and I also ordered a T.V. cable but didn't have time to install that yet. Anyway, after installing governor witch I hope I did right, it looked like a simple install I test drive car and my shifts are worst. 1st to 2nd shift O.K. 2nd to 3rd shifts late it will shift at about 40-45mph and RPM up about 2500 then 3rd to O.D. doesn't shift into O.D. till about 60mph and thats with me quickly letting off the gas pedal and RPM are at about 2800-3000. I've tried adjusting the T.V. but still no O.D. shifts that are O.K. what could be wrong could it be the T.V. cable which I'm going to change anyway or could the governor be bad. At least before I changed out my old governor it would shift halfway descent. Please help. thanks

You need to recalibrate your governor for the new gears, if you haven't done so. Or buy one that's designed for those gears. Not sure if this will solve the problem though.

Hi Mark, the governor that I just put in is for a 3.23 ratio from what GMPARTSDIRECT has told me with the info I provided. Like I explained earlier I've replaced my speedo gear, computer prom also to match this gear ratio of 3.23.

Hi Again, today I tried adjusting T.V. cable a little. shifts from 1st to 2nd occurs at about 13-15 mph and RPM at 1800-2000, 2nd to 3rd now occurs at 28-30 MPH and RPM at 2000 now 3rd to O.D. still the same shifts into O.D. at 58-60 MPH and RPM at 2500 but what I'm having to due is kind of letting off on the gas pedal and quickly pressing down again so the shift can occur and then RPM decreases to 2000-2100 and as soon as I decrease in speed to 55 mph it downshift and rpm are up to 2500-2600 again. I need help quick before I messup tranny. Like I said earlier I replace the governor with the one to match the rear I installed and now this problem. Do you think they gave me the wrong governor or could it be the T.V. cable now.

I'd say try PMing either of them, they're good at responding within a day or 2.
