Swapping 2.8 for V8, what to do for manual trans?
Swapping 2.8 for V8, what to do for manual trans?
I will most likely be getting an 89 RS this weekend. The car has the 2.8L and a 5-speed manual transmission. First off, the car is all original--is the tranny a T5?
I am going to swap in a V8, but it won't have much power--somewhere around best L03 specs. (The car will be my "little" brother's and he doesn't need a lot of power as he's just getting into cars, plus I don't want him to have a faster car than me
) I was told on the V6 board that the tranny is only rated for 200lb-ft. If it is the T5 that is in there (see above), can I just have it rebuilt to handle more power? How much does that cost?
What is the most cost-effective way to go: rebuild T5 that's in there (if it is indeed a T5), get a new T5, OR get a T56? How much would the T5 (including clutch) cost? How much would the T56 cost (including clutch, crossmember, anything else I'd need)? T56 would give better gas mileage, so in the long run...
