Changing rearend fluid

I 'd like to change the fluid in the rear end of my car and wonder if it's as straight forward as it appears.I've done just about everything else to a car that i can think of ,but never changed rearend fluid before.I assume i can get a cover gasket at any parts store, get the proper weight gear oil and i'm in business, right? Are there any other things i should know? What is the proper weight of oil for a 3:42 gear non-posi 10 bolt.Does the gasket need any special prep before installing? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I think you have a handle on it. Check the owner's manual for the proper gear oil weight. Probably any GL5 oil would work fine. If you have posi, get the additive.

Thanks KiethO,I've heard of guys with weird noises in there rearends(that doesn't sound good does it )that changed the fluid and cured the symptoms.I don't think i'll wait for that to happen.I know these 10 bolts aren't the strongest to start with and i'm running a little more power with a 350 than the original 2.8.
