700R4 to Power Glide conversion

My friend is putting a 350 4 bolt into is 1989 Camaro and currently the 700R4 he has is basically junk, and the he plans on using a power glide. Does anyone here know of a conversion method? I know the cross member, drive shaft, and the bracket that holds the torsion bar (from the rear end to the trans) will need to be fabricated, but if anyone has done this information would be helpful.

He must have a really light car and a ton of power to take advange of a 2 speed 'glide. Are you sure he doesn't want to go with a th350.

I think he would perfer it, and that the first gear ratio is around 1.56 instead of 2.52. but he is getting the gilde for free, and doesn't want to put to much money into the car. He does have some 4.11 gears though out of a parts car that make work better with the power glide than the gears he currently had in it.

First gear in the 700R4 is 3.06, 2nd gear is 1.63, third 1.00. The PG has a 1.82 or 1.76 1st gear, with drive being 1.00.

you don't want a 'glide, like you were told unless you have a light car.

I believe a Camaro is pretty light in relationship to what the glide came out of. Basically I am giving him the drivetrain from my 1970 Chevelle (the 350 I mentioned along with the glide.) I believe an 89 Camaro is lighter than a 70 Chevelle by about 1000 pounds. I did not realize 1st gear in a 700R4 was that much different than first gear in a turbo 350, or 400, which are around 2.48, and 2.52 respectively. He wants to stay away from a 700R4 due to all of the problems he has had with them, and also the fact that they are computer controlled.
