Transmission problems
alright... i dont know spit about automatic transmission symptoms so maybe some of you can help.
I took my '88 camaro rs w/700r4 out before i started to pull the motor and i noticed that the shifts seem to be, well, clunky. The car will jirk slightly b/w shifts and a distinct "clunk" comes from the area where the transmission is. I also noticed that if i back of the gas to the point where the throttle is just open, the car will oscilate forward and backward (all acompinied by the "clunk"ing) while going at all speeds. When i got the engine out, i noticed trans fluid on the housing around the tc and it also feels loose, i can twist it left and right and it has a considerable amount of play. Could these symptoms be due to a bad tc? I sure hope so... i dont have money for another trans.
BTW, i also checked the diff and drive shaft to see if the play was coming from there... They both looked to be fine (dammit! they wouldve been easy fixers! my friend has a gear carier w/ pinion all shimmed up that he wants to give me)

my tranny also.
Mine does the same things. Though i am not sure about anything being loose. I haven't climbed under and look and would not know what to look for...
My dad told me its something to do with the back axcle. I've also been told I need a tranny mount.

i checked the mounts but ill check again. I just hope its something stupid. I really cant afford a new trans yet. I plan on putting something better in its place eventually but i cant do that and a new motor at the same time.

if you do look. check the mount on the cross member, whcih is the steel beam supporting the trans. Also check the mounts on the torque arm (the metal beam that connects the trans to the rear end) The rubber mounts crap out after a while.
