Best geared rear-end?

I have no clue to rear-ends but I know I need a higher geared on than my stock 2.73. What's the best one for a modified 305 Firebird? It now has a 270 comp cam, shorty headman headers, Edelbrock 600 cfm carb and performer intake, and the engine machined (don't know if you need all that). Please help me. Oh, and how many will you laugh at a plum purple engine...lol

Gear choice depends on a bunch of factors. Tire size, tranny choice, daily driver, highway cruiser, drag strip machine.

Chances are you're going to want something in the 3.42 - 3.73 range.

If you have a daily driver and a 700R4 go with 3.42's. Great gear you have all the bottom end you need and you can still cruize at 120 with no problem.............I have 3.42's and I am at the top of 3rd gear when I go through the traps............I thought about 3.73's but I think Mark said that he put 3.73's in his car and it slowed down..........just my .02

Cool, thanks for all the info guys. All I know is that the 2.73 in it now slows the car down extreamly.
