Those with TH400 trannies...w/in

Ive pretty much made up my mind to replace my dead 700R4 with the th400... But was wondering a few things....

What can I use or how can I make my speedometer work...Currently on my 700r4 my GTA has an ELECTRONIC speedo...and then what about the VSS...how does that come into play I know an 87 GTA has the buffered 1 wire electric VSS...how can I make that stuff work...

Plus what is the deal with the WOT switch??/ DO you have to have one of these??whats the purpose...

Finally what kind of shifters are you guys running...I know I will have to fab something up to work but is there anything out there that you can hide under the stock console relatively easy... I was leaning towards the cheetah and figured I would just have to notch out the shifter plate some to make it happen.... Any advice on this...

Well, I can only answer on the shifter.. I'm using a Hurst Pistol grip quarter stick. I had already put it in the car and was using it with the old 200c.

check these folks out:

mayb they have something to help.

problem you may have is the signal needed for the speedo. T-400's had electronic speedos before they were discontinued.

Also, the 4L80E tail housing is not compatible with the T-400. And the signal from the 4L80E speedo sensor is not compatible with your cars system if we are talking about the 1987.

About the only thing that is the same is the spline size and count on the back end of a T-400 & 4L80E.

I use a B&M megashifter. It can easily be converted between a 3 and 4 speed tranny.

You need the WOT switch. Think of it more as an electronic kickdown. Without it, the tranny won't downshift when the engine goes under a load (ie passing gear)

I don't use a speedo but I know the rear section on a 4L80E will bolt right up to a TH400. The tailshafts are the same size and length. Changing the rear cover will give you an electronic speedo sender.

Isn't the 4L80E just a TH400 with an overdrive packed in at the front of the transmission? Generaly speaking anyways.

======= generally speaking "no"

there are several internal parts that are similar between the 4L80E and the T-400, but that's it.
