v6 t-5
I have the option to buy a complete t-5 setup from a 82-84 firebird(looks like an SE, i'm not sure, its in a junkyard). I can get it real cheap. The only problem is its a v-6. I read in another post that the v-6 engine has a different bolt pattern, so if i use a v-8 bellhousing, will that solve that problem? I read in another post that the v6 t-5 has a different input shaft spline or something, and you can probly swap in a v8 shaft. IS this correct? and will i be able to get a better v8 clutch, instead of the lumina one? Then, besides being overall weaker, is there any other difference in the v6 t5 over the v8?? Thanks alot, i appreciate any input.

I am doing this swap at the mo in the UK. There are fewer splines on the V6 T5 than the V8 T5. Use a V8 pressure plate with the V8 bellhousing. There is a friction plate available that fits straight on to the V6 T5 splines and has the V8 diameter. So there is no need to change any input shaft or do any swapping clutch plate hubs!. I will try to find out who makes this. The shop doing my engine work is getting it.
The ratios are different in the V6 one. There are many opinions on the strength (or not) of this swap. If you do a search, you will find loads. But, some have driven successfully with one behind their V8, others have blown them up! I will know more in about 4 weeks when I install mine behind my fresh 350!
There are 2 types of T5's. World class (WC) and Non World Class (NWC). The bearings are different (stronger) in the WC one. There is a web site on these transmissions where you can check for specifications. I.e. WC or NWC. http://www.5speeds.com/
