Torque arm Bushing replacement Questions
I lost the directions that came with my torque arm bushing. I remember something about drilling out some of the rivits but I want to be safe and know which ones to work on. Does anyone rember how they installed their bushing.
I can't get the metal housing off. I took all the bolts out, but the torque arm won't move to the side enough to slide the housing off of the tranny. also, when I drill out the rivits, what do I put in their place. I anyone could just scan their directions that would help.

YOu don't put any thing where the rivets used to be. (Drill/grind them all out.) The factory used rivets to hold the rubber bushing to the bracket, since GM used a two-piece bushing. (One piece on each half of the bracket). The ES bushing is one piece, so it doesn't need to be held.
You might need to drop the tailshaft of the trans to get the upper torque arm bracket bolt out. Put a hydraulic jack under the trans pan, with a block of wood between the jack saddle and trans pan. Remove the crossmember, then slowly lower the trans with the jack until you have enough room. Be mindful that the engine's distributor cap doesn't hit the firewall, and don't lower the trans all the way down!
I did my torque arm bushing when I replaced the trans, so everything was already out. I do remember "forgetting" the upper torque arm bracket bolt after putting the trans back up, and having to drop the trans to put the bolt in. The factory bracket "unfolds", it's hinged like a "V". The new bushing will be THICK and it'll be hard to hinge that bracket closed again... I wound up using a large pair of channel locks to keep it closed around the bushing, while I tightened the bolt that secured the top of the bracket.
Contact energysuspension.com , they must have a phone # to call, maybe they can fax/scan+email the directions to you. Oh yeah, use a ton of the grease, even on the outside of the bushing! I have no squeaks, thank goodness. That grease is nasty.

I did my torque arm bushing with the tranny still in the car, it's much easier to pull off the torque arm IMHO. You'll need an angled wrench and socket swivels to get to the bolts on the bushing mount, though.
