need help with governor .. have pics
ok here is my sitution .. i have an 87 iroc with a 700r4. I just recently bought the car. when i was driving it around i notice when i floored it to WOT the car would not shift. So i did a little reasearch on this board. I tryed ajusting my TV cable .. didn't fix it. So i figured it was the governor. When i took it out i got a little confused. How does this thing work. I don't see and wieghts are they missing or is something else wrong. there is not tension that keeps the arms sticking out. they are free moving. i figured this would be hard to explain so i got out the old trusty DC and took a few pics.

There are a number if shift valves, pressure regulator valves
and bias valves along with the govenor that contribute to
and upshift. The method is slightly different depending on if you manual shift 1-2 or 2-3 or let the trans "auto shift" in drive.
Some valve or a combination of valves are sticking in the
valve body causing it to not up shift when it should. This may or may not include the govenor.
Dirt (clutch dust and metal chips) can get lodged in the valve body stopping a valve.
This requires removing the valve body and govenor and thoroughly cleaning it and deburing the valves. This is a good time to install a Transgo shift kit. This kit has some specific "Cures" to address some of these pesky sticking and bindup faults as well as correcting the sloppy shifts.
Even after doing this repair the problem may return if another
piece of dirt infects the valve body or govenor.
If the internal clutchs are not burned out by now, this
shiftkit service should fix you up. If the clutches are gone because of this then you'll have to rebuild the trans.

I have some info on govenor operation at http://iotech.no/corvette/technical/700r4

If the car won't downshift it more than likely is a problem with TV system, not the governor. Could be a overstretched or broken cable. Fluid pressure forces the valve in the center of the governor up toward the weights. When the governor spins the weights force the valve back down redircting oil flow to another passage. If the governor sticks the trans probably won't return to first gear when you stop & will try to start in 2nd gear.
well.. it will shift up and down fine when i am not a WOT. but if i do go to WOT no matter what gear i am in it will not shift up it will shoot over 6K without shiftin. There is no diffrence if i manually shift it or let it shift itself still same problem

You have the lightest factory Governor. Get one for a V-6 and try it. It will lower the WOT points and will probably be more in line with your engines powerband. You will feel like you have a new engine if you match your powerband.
That all being said this assumes that the tranny is not slipping past the shift points!
