is it normal forthe tranny not to shift when a rear is messed up cause mine does not shift when i took it for a test run. but when i lifted it up in the air and the tranny was shifting i dont know whats up???

any 1 know what rear end to put in place of te fatory 1 i was looking at the camaro technical data and my rear is a 3.23 i have an 85 z28 auto and this guy has 1 off an 87 z28 but the gear ratio is 2.73 unless it is the performace ratio wat should i do about that itslike having good ratio to bad ratio

Was it a limited slip unit? They had problems with the Saginaw unit’s governor "exploding". The fix from GM was to replace it with an Auburn unit.
Do a search on these boards for the SLP dif's that were pulled from the newer f bodies they were making into Firehawks. They were selling for $99 on SLP's site, a real bargain.

any rear from a fbody will fit, visit the junkyards and look for the a rear with the ratio you want.
as for the tranny not shifting it is possable the governor gear was damaged from the shock the tranny took when the rear broke, it is only plastic and easy to fix.

 

OK i hada buddy of minecheck out the car he said its the trannycause h was testing the rear out and he said it wuld not move so the tranny is gone cause he went in revers fast and the rear did nothing bad but foward it was not shifting and all these grinding noise where hapening from rear area i dont know

alsohe was pulling the tv cable and while he was pulling it it was maing weird noise so .......

and the rear bering were bad before thi happe to the car then got worse till this hapen ???????????
