Blew out my tranny at an autox today.

It's a stock 700R4 mated to a stock L98 in an 88 IROC. The way I see it (unless I'm lucky - I'm not a lucky person), I have 3 choices:

1) new 700R4
2) Rebuild of the current unit
3) used 700R4

What are the approximate costs of each of these? Any help would be appreciated. I suppose I am looking for pricing to make sure that the pricing I get from the garage is sensible. Thanks.

Theres no such thing as a new 700, a new 700 would be a rebuilt one out of another car.
$900 to $1500 for a "new" rebuild
$900 to $1500 to rebuild yours.
$120 to $600 for a used one.
Tough decision isn't it?

It appears that the labor would be the same for each of the three choices. In addition, a rebuild of mine versus another would be the same, with the time delay being longer for a rebuild of mine...

I HATE manual transmissions, but I LOVE the L98. This is the only tranny that I can use and run in the stock class.

Thanks, guys.

Autox with an auto isn't so bad. Especially around here with smallish courses. With a 2.77 rear, I ain't shifting all that much anyway...

Gotta have the auto to run stock and the L98.

By the way I did a typo in the above post I meant to say that I hate AUTOMATIC transmissions. I really wish GM had given us the L98 with a manual.
