Corvette 700R4 fit a Camaro?

My neighbor ordered an Art Carr 700R4 transmission. They screwed up the order and sent a Corvette tranny. Can he just swap tail housings and use it or are the output shafts differant length?

He called Art Carr and is getting two differant answers from the sales people. One yes and one no. WTF?

hey should be able to, my buddy is running a camaro tranny in his vette.

He should consider himself lucky, then vette tranny is a better unit

How exactly is it better? If it's an art carr built transmission, I'm sure everything inside is aftermarket stuff anyway.

well thats what i was thinking. Its a completely after market tranny with just a different tailshaft their vette and camaro version are probably the same.

If they are based on specific fbody-vette trannies, then the fbody tranny would lack the ability to go wot in 4th and shift to 4th at wot, but I sure these issues have been resolved which ever tranny you bought from them.

I would guess the only difference is the tail shafts.

TCI says is won't work, well at least that the tail shaft is a different length.

700-R4 4L60 (4L60E 1993-1995) (bellhousing pattern - Chevrolet)

Corvette A = 29 7/8
(84-96)

All others A = 30 ¾

Dan, thanks for the link. That's exactly what I was looking for.

nsimmons, who wants to pay out the a$$ for an Art Carr tranny and go ripping it all the way apart to change the output shaft? It would also void the warrenty.
Just changing the tail housing won't work according to Dan's link.

The Corvette tail section is shorter, and so is the output shaft (apx. .950" shorter). Most Corvette's do not have the bolt holes for the transmission mount in the case. The Corvette uses the tail section as the place to bolt the mount. I am not impressed with the Art Carr 700R4 transmission, as I have torn down many, and their lack of quality and bad materials, poor workmanship, etc, says you are paying for the name and not much else.
