700R4 - How much ATF?

I am going to replace my broken 700R4. I want Red Line ATF to put into it. I am not sure how much ATF to get for my mechanic.

Here are the capacities that I was told:
Chiltons - 10 pints (2.5 quarts?)
Haynes - 4.7 quarts

Both of these seem low to me. I already have 7 quarts of Red Line.

Riddle: How many quarts of Red Line are required for a complete fill for a replacement tranny?

those manuals are proly stating how much a refill is if only changing the pan.

sometimes a tranny will come with fluid already in the torque converter, or at least a quart or 2 in there.
so flip it upside down and see if any pours out.

if the tranny is already in the car, dump 5 quarts, start it up, let it run for a minute, check fluid.

an empty tranny will hold about 10 quarts or so.

Thanks. Just to be safe (and to possibly have some extra on hand), I should order another 6 quarts and that should cover me. Thanks again.

Why Redline brand fluid....Should I put this back in my trans during a shift kit install?

Though opinions vary, Red Line is the "Mobil 1" of tranny fluid. There are alternatives like B&M Trick Shift, but ALL of the amateur racers that I know (and that's alot) exclusively use Red Line for their fluid fills (tranny fluid, rear fluid, coolant addtitive, etc). I am converting my IROC, item by item, to Red Line products.

For product descriptions, try www.redlineoil.com I have already changed over my rear end.
