the 700r4 -> T56 swap HELP!!!

anyone who has done this switch-over before - what would you estimate my final costs being ?

assuming my friend and i do all the work involved with switching over the transmission ( at a cost of $0 ) how much am i looking at spending ?

i'm prepared to spend what it takes, i just need to know what that is =D

Figure around $1200-$1500 for a swap "kit" from a 4th gen including the reuseable parts listed in the FAQ.

Add $130 for a McLeod clutch disc, $30 to have the used flywheel machined, ~$200 for a new LT4 pressure plate, ~$130 for an SPD crossmember, $40 for trans fluid and connectors for the VSS and reverse lights, $12 for a new roller pilot bearing, $12 for ARP flywheel bolts, ~$75 for a Dakota Digital VSS translator box.

The prices are approximate. Worth every penny of it!

I just spent around 2300. New Mcleod clutch and pressure plate, new shifter, connectors for everything, new hydraulics, fluid, new bolts for everything, crossmember, SGI-5 box. Everything works great!

I'm a cheap bastard and i'm doing it. Here's the best way I found to go about it:

EBay: picked up '96 T56 trans with the entire pedal assembly, all clutch hydraulics, clutch and flywheel-pressure plate (Which I'm not/can't use but are good so selling these items will offset the cost some) has 63,000 miles and the sweet factory Hurst shifter for $1275

http://www.racenet.net : scored a McLeod dual friction and pressure plate for $410 shipped

Someplace I forget: Got a Centerforce PN# 700173 flywheel for my 388, 1973 two piece RMS, offset balance to fit... For stock cams/fbds '86 and up can use the factory LT1 flywheel, you luck out then. Earlier years (85 and down) have the 2 piece RMS so you need a special flywheel. Externally balanced strokers need a custom flywheel balance/aftermarket piece to work also.

Jegs I think, Pilot Bearing for $13 nice roller piece...

Sphoon: getting a x-member.... Look at the top of thirgens page and click... Cheaper than Skultes piece.

Dakota digital: Speedo recalibrator. If you have an electronic (not cable) driven speedo you luck out for $80. If you have cable drive Jags that Run has a converter for $300-400. If you don't giva-damn if the speedo works. $0

Console piece can be picked up at your leisure from a j-yard, just cut the stocker to fit for now... or spend too much for a NOS piece from Classic Industries or Paddock, year one type deal...

Prolly need $20 or so for wiring/plugs for the tranny. The speedo plug is our CTS sensor plug. Motormite has'em. Junkyard has them as pocket stuffers

That's the route i'm trying out anywayz... Of course labor is priceless
