I have a carrier out of a formula. I have it in my 82 T/A. The gears are 3.08. I am not sure if they are supposed to go on this carrier or not. The ring and pinion didn't seem to sit well together because the tops of all the teeth on the ring shattered off. It might have just broke but I think the 3.08's needed a spacer. I say this because I could have a series 3 carrier with series 2 gears. Is this possible
I paid to have it switched out so I don't know what they did. I know it is posi and came out of an 87 formula, I think that is the year. It had drums on the formula, my T/A has disk.
I need to know what series carrier do I have. It is the one out of the formula. It is a 10 bolt. I have other information too, if you need it.
I am looking at a set of precision 3.73's for a series 2 carrier, and I need to know immediately if the carrier is a series 2 or not. What physical identifying marks are on the carrier to tell me if it is the right one or not???
please respond, I need to know very soon

There's no such thing as 2 series gears for a 3-series carrier. The pinion would go through the ring gear mounting flange on the carrier.
If it has 3.08 gears on it, it's a 2-series carrier. There's somewhere near ½" difference in the flange location between the 2 types; there's absolutely no wau to mix them and still have a rear that works at all.
I know of no identifying marks; but it is certain that if it went into the case with 3.08s mounted on it, it's 2 series.
