Anyone have luck with a used Transmission
I've pretty much finished building my engine and now need a trans. I would really like to get a used transmission but I'm worried about it not holding up. The new engine is going to make about 325 hp, and 375 ft. lbs.. I'm on a very limited budjet and haven't had the car running for about a year. I want to start driving this thing. If I get a new trans it's gonna set me back about another 2 1/2 months before i get it running.
What would you do?

does your stock one work ok? Id use that while doing the initial breakin and continue saving for a nice trans. After all, other than seating the rings, the trans wont see wot or hard use, right? FYI, a stock 700R4 is only rated to something like 350 ft-lbs. of torque.

I would like to do that but unfourtunately I started with a v6,
. So the trans won't mount up. Well for the first 500 miles I definately won't be doing any hard driving but I did want to do some "spirited" driving once it was broken in. I guess I'll just have to wait to get on it until I have a better trans.

Originally, I was going to get a used, unrebuilt 700R4 for about $500-$600 but it only had a 30 day warranty. For the extra money, I went for the rebuilt one for the extra warranty.
Find a garage to supply (and maybe install) the tranny and they should give you some sort of warranty. Since my local garage is simply reselling a tranny shop's stuff and they are passing-thru the warranty to me...

i went through 7 used 700r4 and 1 brand new rebuilt one chunked em all im running a probuilt now no probs i jnus got so tired if the tranny swaps lol later
The cost above does NOT include labor. The total bill installed was $1337.50 and this includes a new torque converter. This is with a garage that I trust and that I have done quite a bit of business with over the years. I have to believe that this is a good price for a rebuilt tranny, installed, including labor and warranty.
Note that I gave him 13 qts. of Red Line ATF (he only used 11.5) that I had lying around so the the ATF is also extra.
