t-5 swap questions
t-5 swap questions
I am about to begin a swap from a 700R4 to a T-5 in my 83 crossfire camaro. The T-5 is from an 84 Z. Are there any suggestions you all can give me before i begin? Are there any special tools i will need? Why do i need a new pilot bushing, clutch disk, pressure plate, and release bearing? Where do i get these parts, are they expensive? Is any brand better than another? I plan on putting this behind my crappy crossfire 305 for now, until i get a 350 to drop in. Currently my 305 leaks oil, im told from a rear main seal. Would this be a good time to replace the seal? Is it a difficult procedure, does it require special tools? Sorry for the length, and thank you for responding.

You haven't gotten any responses, so I can at least say that I have a T5 in my 83Z. The rear end form the automatic (2.73 ?)will give you top end and no quick starts. I can't tell from your post what parts from the stick shift you have.... It will be much more fun to drive with the T5 .

the best way to get all the parts is to find a donor car, thats what i did, mine unfortunately, was a 4 cylinder car. so i still had to search for some stuff, and i am still trying to figure what to do fro a clutch, since the 4 and 6 cylinder trannys use a 14 spline input shaft as opposed to the 26 spline shaft of the v8 trans, and no one makes a 10.5 inch disk with a 14 spline center section
the transmission is actually from a running 84 z28 with a 305 and something like 70K miles. This means parts are no problem. Know how, on the other hand is more difficult for me to come by. Are there performance clutches available for these transmissions? Im still wondring about the rear main seal. Thanks again for the responses.

firechicken, you are using a V8 T-? If so you can take the clutch disc for a v (14 spline) and take a v8 disc (26 spline) to a tranny shop and have them press out the hub from the v6 and press it into the v8.
