26 spline to 28 swap

Transmission: 700R4

Axle/Gears: 3.27 9 bolt

26 spline to 28 swap

I was just browsing threw some msg's and i assume that i have the 26 spline axles in my '86. Would i be able to upgrade to the 28s without having to do any messy gear work or anything like that?

you need a carrier (or at least the side gears) and axles. I don't know what you'd consider "messy"... personally anything i have to do laying under the car is messy to me

You don't have to change the pinion gear or even disturb its bearings though, so i suppose in that respect it's not too messy

Axle/Gears: Ford 9"/31 spline spool/4.86

You'll probably need the new carrier. I tryed swapping some 28 spline aftermarket axles into an 86 diff with 28 spline side gears and the axles wouldn't fit through the hole in the carrier. 1 1/6" drill bit fixed the problem.
