Lockup Question

Hey, I'm getting ready to swap my engine, I'll be going from TBI to carb so I'll also be pulling out the computer. What do I do about the lockup? Also what torque converter would be best for my motor, I'll be running a 383 and doing some strip/track racing but it'll mainly be a street car. Another thing, I'm thinking about getting the Hurst Dual-Gater 2 shifter, any comments on it? Thanks everyone.

check the tech. archives for how to rig a lock-up switch, I did this same swap in mine(cept I went with a 350), it works great.

the stall converter depends on a couple things,
what cam are you running, what gears do you have?

the dual gate looks awesome, I dont know about its function, although from what I understand from previous posters that it is a bitch to install, and often comes with missing instructions and parts.

I don't know what cam yet, I was thinking about Cranes Hydraulic Roller cam, not sure what duration or lift yet, and I will be swapping in 3.42 gears w/ a limited slip diff.

I couldn't be happier with the B&M megashifter I installed a few years ago. Sounds like you are building a torque monster 383 mainly street--idle to 6000 rpm power-band would be nice. With that much torque and 3.42 gears, a stock converter or the higher stalling GM converter would work excellent(not sure on the part number of the higher stalling GM converter). TCI, B&M, and Painless wiring all make 'lock-up kits' to convert a 700r4 to a non-computer controlled car. I'm using the TCI kit, and it works pretty good--I have a manual switch for added control.

I saw that TCI switch in Jegs, looks good for the money. And I've also been hearing things about the Hurst being not so good, I'll check out the B&M.
