Adding fluid to a "dry" transmission...
Okay, I've put new fluid into my 700R4 auto after changing the filter and gasket, but I've never done it before after having the whole transmission out.
The transmission has been out for an engine rebuild, and while we had it out we completely drained it, as well as the torque converter. So, even though my shop manual says to add 4.7 qts, I know that that will be wrong. I have, however, already manually put transmission fluid in the torque converter while it was out (filled it about halfway).
I want to fire up this rebuilt engine tonight; how do I need to go about putting in transmission fluid?

Thanks for the reply!
That's about what I thought--I knew it would be more than the manual said as it only covers people who are doing a filter change, which only involves replacing what came out of the pan. I've actually already put five quarts in, and the dipstick reads an unrealistically high number (on level ground, and the engine has not even been started), so what I think I'll do is just wait until I get the engine started so that what's sitting in the pan gets pumped up and sloshed around, and then I'll probably have to add more after it has run a bit.
