88 TA 7.5 to 7 5/8 gear swap.

Question for all gear heads. Today I bought an s-10 rear end with 3.42's for 10$. On the ring gear it is designated 7 5/8 and I was wondering if I can install the s-10 pinion, ring, and carrier into my 88 TA? I am sure this question has been asked before but I could not find it in the forum. Thank you. Jeff P.

There's no difference between a "7.5" and a "7.625" rear end. I have no clue how that rumor got started, it's on the list of rumors I would squish if i could.

They're the same thing. If your F car has the 7.6" rear, it will go in. You will need a set of pinion bearings, a crush sleeve, and an assortment of shims (although every one of these rears I have ever taken apart had a .035" shim, it's still a good idea to have an assortment on hand just in case) so buy a gear install kit from Ratech. Ignore teh comment in some other post about that all it is is a bunch of washers, that's what it's supposed to be.
