just cruised a local junkyard and finally found a good deal on a t-5 and all necassary components to swap into my 82 t/a-he quoted me at $250-and the tranny is from a v-8 fbody-heres the ques.-if i swap to the t-5 is the output shaft splines gonna match the driveshaft splines or will i need to get that from the donor car as well???-also what about the tranny crossmember will that bolt up??? will the torque arm bolt up???-or should i just shell out some extra cash and get these parts as well--also how do i tell what gears i have and if i have a posi or not?is there a # stamped somewhere???-any help would be appreciated

 

Crossmember will bolt up. Torque arm may bolt up, there are a couple of designs, and yours and the donor's may or may not be the same design. DS will not - it's a different length, get it from the donor car. Sell yours to someone who wants to do a Turbo 350 conversion, they're in high demand for that.

If you want to know what gears you have, take off the cover and look. Have you changed the fluid lately? Then you need to take the cover off anyway to put synthetic gear lube in it. Look at the gears while you're doing that maintenance that should be done every 10-15,000 miles.
