Why did GM do this?
Almost always GM put 3.23 (or 2.73) gears in automatic transmission Camaros but gave the sticks a 3.42 (or 3.73).
Why?
I would have thought the automatic cars needed more help to keep up and thus would have gotten 3.42s as well.
Anyone know their rationale?

More gear helps the stick shift get moving easier. The automatic doesnt need any help to start moving.

An auto trans car will always use slightly more fuel than a manual car, so the gear choice makes up some of the difference. Plus, what they do to auto cars makes a bigger difference to the overall fleet in most models (including these cars) because there are far more auto cars than stick cars.
