Posi not posi-ing...

I've done some searching and haven't found anything on this specific problem. Maybe I'm just not using the right search words, but anyways...

The posi in my 88 GTA doesn't work when taking a hard right hand turn. The inside tire will always spin if I give it too much throttle. If I take a hard left turn, then only both tires will spin when I give it too much throttle (meaning I can give it a LOT more throttle in a hard left turn then I can in a hard right turn) Is this a product of a worn out posi? My car only has 80k miles on it right now, but those were hard miles. I've already had to replace my transmission and there is quite a bit of slop in the drivetrain from the tranny back. I haven't checked to see if it was in the u-joints or rear end yet, but I'm guess it's either the rear end or a combination of both.

Is there a better aftermarket diff that I can slap into my rear-end to get better posi action? I don't want to replace the entire rear axle, that's just too large a task for me to take on. What are my options? What do I need to do to improve my right turn acceleration? With my 5.7 TPI at low speeds, I have a real hard time accelerating out of a right hand turn. This is particularly annoying cause I have to make a right hand turn onto a very busy street when I leave work at 5:30 in the afternoon, and all that low end torque doesn't do me squat diddley when the right rear tire just spins up a storm and the left doesn't pull it's own weight.

swapping rear ends is about as easy as it gets. you might want to pull the cover and do a little inspecting, change the oil and additive.

yeah sounds like your posi maybe alittle worn out.. maybe time for a fluid change with posi additive, like he said, and see what happens.

one thing i found out is that dounuts and pushing the posi hard in turns is not good for it!! i had a good posi in my 1988 formula 350 and doing dounuts made it alittle weaker so when i would try to spin the tires in a turn the rear end would make a noise (slipping) but the posi still work when i did burnouts at the track.. o well thats not my problem the car got wrecked and someone else bought it.

slp makes a good posi you can install into your rear.

another thing to check for, is that you tire pressure is even on both sides of the car.

I'm pretty diligent about keeping the tire pressures up and even on my car. I'll try doing a fluid change and additive this weekend though. I've never changed the rear-end fluid myself, so it's highly likely it's never been changed. I guess that's one maintainance task I need to put in my rotation. If this doesn't work, I'll look into the SLP posi. I really need the car to hook up coming out of turns. Especially if I plan on autocrossing next year.
