I'm curious why you would want that type of setup. Putting a Gear Vendors on the back of a 4l80e would give you about 1000 rpm cruising at 90 mph, wouldn't it? Why not just a th400 with a Gear Vendors? I am VERY happy with this setup in my Vette.

There are valvebody kits for the 4L80E with allow you to engage the OD in other gears giving you a pseudo 6-speed automatic.

Hi Monty, So, why would a person want to put a Gear Vendors on the back of the 4l80e?

Gear vendors will net better track times due to the splitting of the gears... Plain and simple, but Monty gave me the information i needed. Monty, can you have a transbrake and this quasi 6-speed at the same time?

Bob, I don't know...Gta, why do you want the 4L80E/GV combo?

Gta, Sorry I don't know the question to that either. I've just come across it a couple of times, I don't have any first hand experience with iit. If you decide to go with it, let us know, as it sounds interesting.

I don't think there would be an advantage to splitting the gears on a 4l80e. You will waste time trying to figure out how to time your shifts in conjunction with your pushing the switch to engage/disengage the GV unit. If you did do this it would give you 8 forward gears since the 4l80e is a 4 speed. I have found from experience that it doesn't work to split all the gears. I leave the GV off for 1st to 2nd shifts. Then I decide if I'm going to need a gear higher than 2nd over I just go directly to third. If I don't need much more gear before the next cone or turn I use the GV to give me a little more. I know Gear Vendors claims you can split all the gears and get a faster time. I don't think it's possible in practical use. You have to shift your main trans and disengage the GV at exactly the correct time. Very difficult to do. I would go with the th400 and GV if I was you. Or else the 4l80e like Monty did.
