th-350 cruising speed

I have a 3.42 gear in my 84 Z, what kind of rpm's should I be running in 3rd gear at 55 mph? what about 65? It seems as if it is running high. Thank you

Using 26" tires a 3.42 would be:

RPM 1st 2nd 3rd
1000 9 14 22
1500 13 21 33
2000 17 29 43
2500 22 36 54
3000 26 43 65
3500 30 50 76
4000 34 57 87
4500 39 64 98
5000 43 71 109
5500 47 79 119
6000 52 86 130
6500 56 93 141

Not to bad...I'm a click away from getting a set of Richmond 3.42 as I type...

Looks like you need the gears(3.42) I order more than me!
I currently have 2.93, which would be great if I was racing at Daytona...

geezuz no wonder it takes so long to get to 6000 RPMS in first and second! Im getting 67 MPH in first gear! whoa! and second gear.. 107!! yikes! I have shifted at 6500 in 2nd gear... amazing... this explains why I nearly finish the 1/4 mile in 2nd gear lol oh boy. I hit third then get about a second out of it and the run is over... sigh* my best so far on the track was 12.02 @ 121 but I have G-Teched over the past few days under 11.5 @ 125 with bigger tires...

Boy you can probably drop your track times into the 11's with a set of gears.

Yeaaa, I was out testing(HWY13 ) a couple of weeks ago, and by the time I got to around 5G's in 2nd, I was flying!!! No speedometer, but I can tell I'm criusing along fairly fast. hmmm I better check my gear ratios, yeap a 2.93!!!
My speed for RPM range is almost identical to yours, cause I have 27.4" wheels (225/70/15).
