Tranny Mounts

I am having a clunk problem with my car, I noticed that under pressure the "horizontal bar" (between the two rubber pieces) flexes and lets my tranny rotate, wich moves my catalitic converter up and hits the floor. Is their a diff year/brand bar that wont flex?? Much thanks, I am needing to get this car on the road. :hail:

use a ES poly mount, that should fix your problems

The ES trans mount will help, but look at those big rubber bushings under that other bar..... I would take those out and put some hockey pucks or something in there instead..... That is probably where all the slack in the system is. ES and other places such as lift kit companies might even make a body mount type of piece that you can use for that. Just measure up one of those things and see what they say.

Those "biscuits" can't cause that, the way they're made, even if the rubber was completely missing, it can only move about 3/8".

Get the Energy Suspension mount, it will take care of the problem.

You can see in the pic that your trans mount is broken, the trans is sitting about ½" off to the driver's side.

Brand new mount, just had the tranny rebuilt. See how clean it is, compared to the rest of the car. I will see if a local parts place has one of them ES ones. But I still dont like that bar flexing. I am a draftsman and that bar is a :nono: to me. Is that the same on all years/engine/tranny combos??

Those donut looking mounts can be replaced with some ES poly bushings. They are in the Jegs/Summit catalog and are the "Secondary Transmissions Bushings" for around $20. I don't have the p/n right here but I can get it for you or someone will post it. I just installed a set in my Z with a Poly tranny Mount too. It definately tightens everything up. Good luck.

They don't all have that, most don't. I don't really know how to figure out what cars got it and what didn't.

My 83 has it; even with a pretty healthy 400 in it, I have never had trouble with it.

Just being new is no guarantee that a trans mount is any good. With the stock L69 still in my car, I changed it out once, backed down the driveway, and broke it in half the very first time I took off. At that point I realized something had to be done... I'm an engineer, and I know that a blob of some kind of spooge isn't going to stand up to engine torque, although it doesn't take much to figure that out.

Your local parts store most likely doesn't have the ES mount. Your local speed shop might. Otherwise, mail order like Jeg's or Summit would be the answer.
