Gear change 2.73 to 3.42
I'll be swaping the gears this weekend , 3.42 are from a 92 camaro.
Will It fit without problems ?
What oil do I use ???
I bought a gasket and a pinion seal, do I need anything else ?

Those gears won't work on your carrier. You'll need a 3-series carrier, like maybe the one the gears came from.
You can probably get away with the shims that are there, if you're real careful. If I was you I'd buy a complete kit, like the Ratech 308K maybe, because you're going to need some bearings for sure, and it's cheaper to buy the kit than the bearings by themselves, and in thelit you get a cruch sleeve, shims, seal, etc. too.

Besides a ring & pinion,
2.5qts gear oil
posi additive (if you have a posi)
Crush collar
pinion nut
dial indicator to set pinion depth
assorted shims, pinion & side carrier
gear marking compound
side bearings
pinion bearings
(all of the above bearings will most likely worn or distorted when pressed off your old parts)
access to press for bearings
a good service manual
time & patience

I'm looking forward to doing mine this weekend also. I'm going from a 2.93 to a Richmond 3.42.
I ordered the 2 Series 3.42 gear, so there must be a difference in size if there's a different part number between the 2 & 3 series 3.42.
I'm about to head out and pick up some axle tube bearings, oil, and other goodies.
BTW: I also ordered the installation kit, and in the photo below you can clearly see there's some parts involved. I guess you can reuse everything, but me I want this rear end to last - that & it's for racing

It's the thickness of the ring gear. The 3 series carriers are offset more to allow for a larger pinion gear.
