not f-body

This isn't a F-body question but, I don't know who else to ask.
I have a 1994 Grand Am. I tranny is sliping in 1st gear. Its an automatic. All the other times the tranny shifts fine. From a dead stop the rpm will climb and the motor reves up but the car doen't move. Then all the sudden the trany locks in and your off. Through first gear it drops in and out of gear. Once it his seccond everything is normal. On the thruway it drops down one or two gears, for passing. I just changed the fluid and filter, and it didn't make a difference.
Thanks for any help

Which Tranny is it? If it is the 4T60E suspect that the Low Roller is bad. Soon this will tear up the Reverse Drum. Very common problem. GM changed the design a few years later and came out with a sturdier drum, THEN later they trippled the price of the drum, apparently to make up for past warranty costs?
