rearend gear ratio question
about a month ago, i lit em up from a stop light and i totally destroyed my rearend (somehow)...since i bought the car a few weeks b4, i wasnt pleased...however, i scrounged all the money i could and got it replaced stock cuz it was all i could afford. I think the stock 88 IROC has 2.73 gears but i dont know if thats what ive got now...is there some way i can find this out...by looking on the housing or somethin like that or is it just anyone's guess...aight, thanks

Did you change the fluid when you put it in? If not, then it needs it. You have to take the cover off to do that. Look at the gears while you're there.
The "codes" are notoriously unreliable. Sure, somebody will have a list of them, and you can look yours up and it will give you some ratio, and maybe it really doesn't make any difference to you beyond satisfying your curiosity; but don't buy any parts where the ratio matters, because your odds aren't real good that what the codes say is what's really in there.
If your car is an auto, then it probably did come with 2.73s.
