Car: 87 GMC sierra classic

Transmission: professionally re-built 700R4, REALLY hard shifts & bigger clutch packs
It depends how light the vehicle is. Trucks actually respond better to lower stall speeds. A little higher stall is generally better, but a 2500 in a near stock hauler isnt a good thing. I put a 1700-2100 range convertor in my 700R4 where there used to be a stock 750. The difference is not obvious, but it is there.
As for your 305, its hard to say cuz it depends on the aggressiveness of teh cam too. More powerful cams always need higher stall speeds, so if youre keepin that stock, go with a 2000-2300 convertor. If youre camming it or especially hot camming it, go with 2500-2700.
Hope i helped and didnt confuse you too much.
