Anyone in here change there own fluid and filter?

Is it hard to do? It looks like all you really have to do is; losen bots and let some fluid drain, take off all bolts and let all the fluid drain, take off two bolts on transmission to get filter off, take new filter and tighten the two bolts, clean pan and any gasket remaining, and finally torque down the pan to specs.

I wanted to have a garage do it but heres my problem. About 28,000 miles ago I put in a new engine, installed a B&M shift kit and changed fluid and filter. Right now the fluid is yellowish, like new engine oil (but its not). It doesnt smell funny and it shifts perfectly everytime. I went to a few garages but they all said that they wont even go near my car because its been too long. I talked too a few transmission places and they said that they would look at it, but if its as the other garages say, they wont change it unless I pay to have a full rebuild, just so if anything does happen, they wont be at fault.

I was thinking I would change the fluid and filter myself and see what happnes. I know that wont get out all the fluid the first time, but if it goes well, after awhile change the fluid and filter again. I know I waited too long to get this done, but if I mess it up I was just going to get a good built 700r4. Any suggestions?

Go ahead and try it. Its really easy to do. The only thing I dislike about replacing the tranny fluid is the mess I always make.

It's a piece of cake job. Also you could flush the trans by disconnecting the line the flows into the radiator and starting the car while pouring new fluid in and letting the old fluid pump out into a suitable container. Just make sure you have alot of trans fluid on hand. I buy a case when I'm going to be doing a flush.
